Frequently Asked Questions

How much notice is needed for special orders?

Since we are a small business, we keep a small staff. That being said, our deadlines for ordering changes every week. We always recommend at least a week's notice for a custom cake order for a weekend, and at least 48 hours notice for all other orders. However, please be aware that if we have an extra busy week, or a special event on a particular day, we might require more notice because we can fill up. The best advice - get your order in as soon as you're ready. There's no such thing as "too early"!

Is there a deposit required for special orders?

Typically, we ask for a 50% deposit on custom cakes that is required at the time of booking, and the remaining is due at time of pick-up. We accept cash, credit cards, or checks. For weddings, a nonrefundable 25% deposit is required to save the date and the remaining is due 2 weeks prior to the event.

What type of frosting do you use on your cakes?

Currently, we offer American buttercream, fondant, cream cheese, or whipped frosting. We can only frost a cake in cream cheese or whipped; we must use buttercream to pipe any type of decorations onto the cake. We are also unable to stack cakes frosted in cream cheese or whipped.

Should I refrigerate my cake or baked goods?

The answer depends on the product. For desserts with fruit or cream fillings, with cream cheese frosting, pies, and cheesecakes, the answer is always yes. For all other cakes, the choice is yours! If you don't have room in your fridge, the cake will stay perfectly fresh at room temperature. If you choose to refrigerate your buttercream cake, please allow to come to room temperature before consuming. If you're wanting to have your cupcakes stay fresher longer, we recommend storing them in a sealed container in the refrigerator. Never refrigerate cookies or brownies.

It's warm outside and I need to run a few errands before taking my cake or dessert home. Will it be OK in the car for a while?

No, no, no! We are always more than happy to keep your dessert here while you run your errands. Never leave a dessert with frosting or topping in the car without the A/C on. We use real butter and real cream cheese in our frostings, so they will melt quickly. Don't forget, if your car is in the sun, temperatures can get over 30 degrees warmers in a closed vehicle than what they are outside.

How do I travel with my cake?

If you have a standard single tier cake, you can travel with your cake on a flat surface. If you have a tiered cake, we recommend a flat surface such as the back of an SUV or minivan with seats folded down flat. We DO NOT suggest carrying cakes on laps or the seat of a car as these items have a natural incline and can cause the cake to collapse. We also do not recommend placing your cake in a car trunk. Once your cake leaves The Cake Place's possession, it is difficult, if not impossible, to make repairs to any damage caused by improper transportation, display, or storage.

How long do your products last?

TCP is a scratch made custom bakery and we do not use any preservatives in our baked goods.  Cookies will be good for 1-2 days, but will stay good for 3-4 days if kept in a sealed container (hint - stick a piece of white bread in the sealed container with your cookies to keep them even softer!). Cupcakes will be good for 2-3 days, but will stay good for 4-5 days if kept in a sealed container in the refrigerator. Cut cakes will be good for 4-5 days (hint - keep a piece of plastic wrap or parchment paper against the exposed side of the cake to keep it from drying out as fast), and uncut cakes will be good up to a week if kept in the refrigerator.

I have food allergies. How does The Cake Place handle desserts for those with gluten, dairy, or nut allergies?

We have a vegan chocolate and vegan vanilla cake that are perfect for those with dairy allergies. Most of our products are nut free, and although we try our hardest to sanitize dishes and utensils between uses, especially after peanut products, they are still used in the bakery. We are more than happy to try to accomodate to your needs with special orders. As for gluten-free products, we offer multiple flavors of GF cakes, along with GF brownies. However, we are not a gluten-free establishment so those with Celiac Disease should not eat our GF products.

Does TCP make anything sugar-free?

Yes, for special orders only. We make a yellow and chocolate sugar-free cake (with vanilla or chocolate sugar-free frosting) that is sweetened with Splenda, along with five flavors of sugar-free pies (strawberry, blueberry, pumpkin, apple, and pecan). Most of these items are not low in carbs, so some diabetics still need to be careful when consuming these desserts.

What type of custom cake orders can you do?

Our decorators have years of experience and can create just about anything. In fact, a large majority of the cakes we design each week are custom designed for our customers. Give us a call or stop by and we can help take your order!

Does TCP deliver?

Yes, we deliver on a daily basis anywhere inside Russellville city limits for free with a $15 or more order, and the delivery fee is just $5 for orders under $15. Call us for fees for surrounding towns. We will deliver wedding cakes to anywhere in the state for a fee.

Does TCP ship?

Not yet, but we are working on this!

How do I apply for a job at TCP?

We always accept applications even if we aren't hiring, but we always post job openings on our Facebook page. (www.facebook.com/thecakeplace) Stop by to fill out an application during normal business hours.

How much do your wedding cakes cost?

Our wedding cakes start at $2.25/serving (our serving size is 1" wide by 1" deep by the entire height of the tier, usually 5-6") for round buttercream cakes. You can see our pricing guide on our Weddings tab, and we ask that you schedule a consultation appointment to receive an official quote.

What else can you provide for my wedding reception?

TCP also offers custom sweets tables and custom bakery wedding favors to make your special day even “sweeter”.  Lauren can assist you with creating the cake or sweets table for your special day. We also provide cake stand rentals. We do not currently offer wedding cake toppers; we recommend flowers or looking at Hobby Lobby, Michaels, or Etsy.

Do I freeze the top tier of my wedding cake?

As a "thank you" from TCP to our brides and grooms, all wedding cake orders include a complimentary 6-inch cake to celebrate your first anniversary. Please contact TCP to place your order for your first anniversary cake in the flavor of your choice.  We recommend calling at least one week prior to your anniversary for your complimentary cake.
